From conception to birth!
The class opens with saying it’s unlikely they need to worry about pregnancy for a long time, but just in case they ever find themselves with an unplanned pregnancy or know someone who is, these pregnancy safety precautions are discussed:
- taking folate
- seeing a Dr. right away
- pregnancy options
- pro-life
- counseling
- nutrition
- fetal development
- stages of labor
- Safe Haven/Surrender Law
The goal of this class is to provide education long before it MAY be needed, in order to prevent teen suicide, a lack of prenatal care, abortion or baby abandonment and jail. If teens are educated about their options and hopefully feel safe to share their situation, then even a scared teenager will seek help early on. The health of mother and baby are what’s most important and girls need education and support during this crucial time.
Statistics say:
- 50% of teens choose to be sexually active
- Teens with a religious influence have a higher rate of teen pregnancy, most likely as a result of a lack of education and guilt surrounding use of birth control. It ends up “just happening”
- Pregnant teens are 7 times more likely to commit suicide!
- Nearly half of teens get pregnant in the first 6 months of being sexually active!
- 7 out of 10 pregnant teens are Caucasian
